Kelmė Cultural Center Adult Amateur Theatre Group “(Ne)Taktiški” – Performance “An Allusion to Žemaitė. The Scarf – A New Fashion”

On November 14 at 6:00 p.m., the Šiauliai Cultural Center Rėkyva Cultural House will present the Kelmė Cultural Center adult amateur theatre group “(Ne)Taktiški” performance “An Allusion to Žemaitė. The Scarf – A New Fashion.”

The amateur theatre group “(Ne)Taktiški” invites the audience to a performance where Žemaitė, her image, the scarf, and societal expectations become a symbol of change. Using humor and satire, the scarf—traditionally an attribute of femininity, modesty, and old customs—is reinterpreted as fashion that can be contemporary, provocative, and even challenge stereotypes.

The performance explores how society creates norms, what it means to be a “real woman” or a “true Žemaitė,” and what it means to dare to live differently than expected. Through characters, stage situations, and dialogues, the audience sees that the scarf is more than an accessory—it is a sign concealing history, women’s voices, and the tension between tradition and self-expression.

The audience is invited not only to observe but also to reflect on their relationship with tradition, the role of women, and societal stereotypes. The play provokes questions: Who are we? What roles does society impose on us? Can we choose freely without fear of being different?
