Traditional Celebration for Newborns Held in Šiauliai

On May 15, 2026, Šiauliai Central City Park was filled with children’s laughter, colors, and festive excitement as the traditional celebration honoring the city’s youngest residents, “I Am a Little Citizen of Šiauliai”, took place. Held for the 22nd consecutive year, the event brought together hundreds of families to meaningfully celebrate Children’s Day and welcome the newest members of the city community. For more than two decades, this initiative has served as a reminder that childhood in the city is shaped not only at home but also through becoming part of the local community.

Organizers – the Civil Registration Division of the Administration of Šiauliai City Municipality and the Šiauliai Cultural Center. Sponsors – Compensa Life Vienna Insurance Group SE and UAB Rūta. Partner – Šiauliai Arts School.

The highlight of the celebration was the ceremony honoring the youngest citizens of Šiauliai. During the event, the Mayor of Šiauliai, Artūras Visockas, congratulated 350 babies born between May 1, 2025, and April 15, 2026, along with their families. The children received “Little Citizen of Šiauliai” certificates and symbolic commemorative gifts – mugs. Organizers inform that registered families who were unable to attend the celebration may collect their gifts at the Civil Registration Division of the Administration of Šiauliai City Municipality (Varpo St. 15, Šiauliai).

The event offered a wide range of activities and entertainment for the whole family. Children and their parents took part in creative educational workshops, drew and created artwork, decorated themselves with colorful temporary tattoos, tried puzzle activities, and enjoyed the inflatable play area. The most active participants also had the opportunity to meet animator Polė. Curious visitors could learn about the work of police officers, participate in first aid and civil safety activities, while the children were accompanied by their well-known friend Amsius.

The creative art plein-air workshop “Drawing Childhood” brought together participants of all ages for artistic activities in the open air. Colorful artworks filled with childhood imagination, warm emotions, and family moments were created throughout the day. Organizers invite the public to view the exhibition until May 18.

A warm and welcoming atmosphere prevailed throughout the event. Children’s laughter, family conversations, and shared memories once again reminded everyone that the most beautiful city celebrations are born from simply being together. “I Am a Little Citizen of Šiauliai” remains a meaningful tradition that each year connects different generations and symbolically welcomes those who are just beginning their journey in Šiauliai.
