Statehood Day in Rėkyva – Inspiring Stories, Creativity and Community

On 6 July 2026, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., the event “Lithuanian Identity and Resilience”, dedicated to Statehood (Coronation of King Mindaugas of Lithuania) and National Anthem Day, will bring the community together in the park of the Šiauliai Culture Centre Rėkyva Culture House (Energetikų St. 7). It will invite visitors to meaningfully commemorate one of the most important celebrations of Lithuanian statehood and, at the same time, reflect on the significance of Lithuanian identity, civic awareness, culture and community in today’s society.
Presented by Šiauliai City Municipality. Organised by Šiauliai Culture Centre. The event is free of charge.

6 July is a day that reminds us of the origins of Lithuanian statehood, the significance of the coronation of King Mindaugas and our nation’s ability to preserve and foster its identity. This celebration invites us not only to remember historical events, but also to reflect on the values that continue to strengthen society today – unity, responsibility, respect for our culture and pride in Lithuania.

It is precisely these values that will be celebrated throughout the afternoon and evening in the park of the Rėkyva Culture House through educational, informative and artistic activities for visitors of all ages. Through creativity, inspiring stories, music and community, participants will be invited to rediscover what it means today to be creators and guardians of their country and responsible members of their community.

From 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., visitors will be invited to take part in the educational graphic arts workshop “My Royal Symbol”. Inspired by the symbols of Lithuanian statehood, heraldic traditions and medieval history, the educational activity will introduce participants to the history of coats of arms, their meaning and the symbols that have long been used to represent the identity of rulers, nobles and cities. During the creative part, children, young people and families will create their own personal or family coat of arms, depicting their most important values, interests, dreams and strengths. Participants will transfer their symbols into graphic prints using the monotype technique.

As the evening gets underway, at 6.30 p.m., a meeting will begin with one of the most prominent Lithuanian athletes of the younger generation, Dakar Rally champion Rokas Baciuška. The racing driver will share his personal experiences of perseverance, overcoming challenges, motivation and the responsibility of representing Lithuania on the international stage. The conversation will focus on values, connection with one’s country, inspiring young people and promoting Lithuania’s name around the world. The meeting will invite participants to view resilience not only as a quality of society, but also as a personal trait that helps people pursue their goals and not give up when faced with challenges.

At 8 p.m., the evening atmosphere will continue with a concert by performer Justina Žukauskaitė. The performer captivates audiences with her powerful vocals, sensitive performances and contemporary repertoire, combining emotional original music, popular songs and a sincere connection with the audience. The concert will invite everyone to enjoy music, community and celebrate Statehood Day together. At 9 p.m., the event will culminate in the singing of the National Anthem, uniting Lithuanians around the world.

The event “Lithuanian Identity and Resilience” will become a space for a meaningful community gathering, promoting civic awareness, cultural consciousness and pride in one’s country, while inviting everyone to celebrate Lithuanian statehood through knowledge, creativity, experiences and community.
