Painter Antanas Šeronas’ Exhibition “Traces of Time” Will Invite Visitors to Discover Stories Hidden in Everyday Life

On 13 July 2026 at 6 p.m., the exhibition “Traces of Time” by Šiauliai painter Antanas Šeronas will open at Zubovai Palace (Aušros al. 50), marking the beginning of the international artists’ symposium-creative workshops “Sunny Šiauliai”. It will become one of the highlights of the programme of the international artists’ symposium-creative workshops “Sunny Šiauliai”. Art historian Dr Dalia Karatajienė will share insights into the artist’s work.
Organised by Šiauliai Culture Centre. Funded by Šiauliai City Municipality. The event is free of charge.

Antanas Šeronas is one of the most prominent Lithuanian painters of his generation, whose work has gained recognition among art critics and collectors. The artist is appreciated for his dedication to the tradition of classical painting, distinctive style and exceptional sense of colour. In his work, fragments of everyday life, landscapes, interiors and objects marked by time become sensitive narratives about memory, decay and human experience. Thick layers of paint, expressive brushstrokes and rich colours bring the paintings to life, inviting viewers to stop, look closely and discover their own stories.

Art critics distinguish A. Šeronas’ work not only for his professional painting technique, but also for his ability to transform simple everyday motifs into emotionally powerful images. The artist himself has repeatedly emphasised that he does not follow trends in his painting and considers authenticity his priority, while his greatest creative inspiration lies in memories and in the painting process itself. Having grown up in the village of Prasčiūnai in Radviliškis District, the artist often returns in his work to childhood experiences, motifs of nature and signs of the disappearing countryside, transforming them into universal stories of human memory and time. All of this is also reflected in the exhibition “Traces of Time”, which presents works created since 2019 and demonstrates the artist’s mature and consistently developed creative practice.

A. Šeronas has held around 20 solo exhibitions and participated in more than 100 group exhibitions in Lithuania and abroad. In 2022, he was awarded the Šiauliai City Culture and Art Prize “For Faith in the Power of Classical Painting and Enthusiasm for Exhibition Activities”, and in 2023, the artist participated in a creative residency in Sicily. His works have also been acquired by the Šiauliai “Aušra” Museum.

The exhibition at Zubovai Palace will run until 18 July. During this period, visitors will be able not only to view A. Šeronas’ paintings and observe the creative process of the international artists’ symposium-creative workshops “Sunny Šiauliai”, but also to take part in other programme events. On 15 July at 6 p.m., there will be a screening of director Algimantas Puipa’s film “Ticket to Taj Mahal” (1991), while on 18 July at 6 p.m., the symposium will culminate in a closing evening and the electronic meditation “Sand and Water” by Gediminas Dapkevičius (synthesisers, guitar) and Deimantė Kraujutytė (vocals, violin).
