Electronic Meditations “Sand and Water” Concluded the International Artists’ Symposium “Sunny Šiauliai”

On the evening of 18 July 2026, Zubovai Palace was filled with an atmosphere of electronic music, improvisation and tranquillity. At the closing event of the international artists’ symposium-creative workshops “Sunny Šiauliai” – the electronic meditations “Sand and Water” – a programme prepared by composer Gediminas Dapkevičius (synthesisers, guitar) and performer Deimantė Kraujutytė (vocals, violin) was presented for the first time in the surroundings of Zubovai Palace. Those gathered were invited on a sensitive journey through sound, where electronic music textures intertwined with live vocals, violin improvisations and the natural environment.

The electronic meditation “Sand and Water”, held on Saturday evening, became a musical narrative about transience, flow and the unity of the elements of nature. Subtle layers of sound, rhythmic pulses and improvisations created a space to stop, listen and, at least for a moment, step away from the pace of everyday life. This performance became a natural culmination of the entire creative week and meaningfully concluded the six-day international artists’ symposium-creative workshops “Sunny Šiauliai”.

The symposium, held from 13 to 18 July, brought together professional artists from Lithuania, Latvia, Poland and Armenia for the third time. This year’s theme of the creative workshops was dedicated to the 790th anniversary of Šiauliai, and the artists sought their own interpretations of the history, present day and festive atmosphere of the City of the Sun on canvas.

Throughout the week, Zubovai Palace was open to visitors. Residents and guests were able to observe the creative process, interact with the artists, see up close how paintings are created, and become better acquainted with the distinctive creative styles of artists from different countries. The symposium programme was complemented by the opening of Antanas Šeronas’ painting exhibition “Traces of Time”, while in the middle of the week, a screening of director Algimantas Puipa’s film “Ticket to Taj Mahal” and a meeting with the filmmaker were held.

Over six days, artists from different countries, their experiences and creative ideas came together at Zubovai Palace. The symposium became a space where new works of art were created, dialogue took place between the artists and the city, and the history of Šiauliai and its contemporary cultural life took on new artistic forms. The works created, inspired by the theme of the 790th anniversary of Šiauliai, will remain as a testament to this creative week and an artistic narrative about the City of the Sun.
