World Art Day was declared on April 15th to commemorate the legacy of the Renaissance genius, inventor and poet Leonardo da Vinci. On this day, the public has the opportunity to learn more about and experience art and the creators themselves through various cultural events, activities and initiatives. On this day, both past and present creative individuals and their works are remembered.

Šiauliai Cultural Centre, in response to the fact that 2025 has been declared the year of the composer and artist M. K. Čiurlionis, on April 15th. combines two meaningful occasions into one and presents the festive concert "Peace" to the residents of Šiauliai and guests of the city.

“The concert organized on the occasion of World Art Day is an opportunity not only to immerse yourself in the special world of M. K. Čiurlionis’s work, to hear masterfully performed works, but also to feel the depth of the composer’s artistic vision through music, art and acting. We believe that this evening will touch the heart of every listener and allow you to rediscover Čiurlionis’ genius,” says Deimantė Bačiulė, director of the Šiauliai Cultural Center.

M. K. Čiurlionis is one of the most famous Lithuanian artists, an exceptionally talented composer, painter, choir conductor, and writer who left an invaluable mark on the history of Lithuanian art and culture. His musical legacy includes about 400 works. The composer wrote the famous symphonic poems “In the Forest” and “Sea”, works for string quartet and piano, and harmonized Lithuanian folk songs for choir. Čiurlionis’s works of art are also rich in reflections of musical thinking.

On the evening of April 15, the concert program will be presented by one of the most prominent Lithuanian chamber music groups, the Kaunas String Quartet, which has gained recognition both in Lithuania and abroad: Karolina Beinarytė-Palekauskienė (violin), Aistė Mikutytė (violin), Eglė Lapinskė (viola), Kasparas Šerpytis (cello). The performers, together with their colleagues pianist Kotryna Kaklauskaite, actor Henrikas Savickis and visualization operator Leonas Povilaitis, will combine music, art, theater and poetry into one whole in the evening program.

The central axis of the concert is M. K. Čiurlionis' String Quartet in C minor. It is one of his few surviving chamber music works. The quartet expresses the features of romantic and impressionistic music characteristic of Čiurlionis's work - subtle harmony, colorful combination of timbres and emotional depth.

Throughout the concert, M. K. Čiurlionis’ letters to Sofia will be read between the pieces, revealing his thoughts, feelings and creative visions. Also, on the multimedia screen, the audience will be able to enjoy selected paintings by the artist, which, although seen many times, always catch the eye. The letters and M. K. Čiurlionis’ painting “Peace” will be connected by fragments from the composer Zita Bružaitė’s work “Peace”, and while M. K. Čiurlionis’ Sonata for Piano in F major, VL 155, II. “Andante” is playing, drawings by students of Kaunas Art Gymnasium on the theme of M. K. Čiurlionis will be shown.

The event organizers hope that this concert will not leave anyone indifferent – each listener will take away not only a special musical experience, but also a new approach to M. K. Čiurlionis’ creative legacy.

Please note that the concert is accompanied by invitations, which are distributed by the Šiauliai Cultural Centre box office and Ticketmarket.lt.
