Amateur Theatre "Durys" presents the premiere of "Widows" based on S. Mrožekas

2025. April 22. At 6:30 p.m. The premiere of the play "Widows" by the amateur theater "Durys" (artistic director V. Dargis) based on the play of the same name by the famous Polish playwright Sławomir Mrożek will take place in the Great Concert Hall of the Šiauliai Cultural Center. This is the seventh premiere of the amateur theater "Durys", which invites you to look at the human relationship with life, love and death through a tragicomic, paradoxical prism. The organizers hope that this play will become a strong artistic experience, inspiring creative searches and self-knowledge.
Organizer - Šiauliai Cultural Center. The event is free.

Šiauliai Cultural Center Amateur Theatre “Durys”, led by Virginijus Dargys, was founded in 2013. The collective, which has been around for more than a decade, brings together people of different professions who rush to rehearsals after work to free themselves and share their experiences. Amateur theatre is not limited to traditional forms – there is a lot of improvisation, inner growth and searching.

After active rehearsals on April 22 at 6:30 p.m., the Amateur Theatre “Durys” invites the audience to its seventh premiere – “Widows”. The play chosen as the basis for the performance is a very personal creative expression, created by the Polish playwright S. Mrožek in 1992 in Mexico, when the writer was recovering from a complex operation. The work talks about a person’s encounter with loss, memory, and sometimes – with the strange, tragicomic absurdity of existence. This is a play that invites us to stop, look inside and rethink what is truly important to us.

Artistic director of the amateur theatre “Durys” V. Dargis emphasizes that this performance is like an internal test for both the creative team and the audience. “Widows” is not just a play about death. It is a work about life after loss, about inner silences that sometimes sound louder than words. Mrožeks’ dramaturgy requires special precision and sensitivity – that is what makes this work special,” says V. Dargis and adds that the roles in the performance are created by long-time members of the theatre “Durys” – Vilija Krausienė, Loreta Murzaitė, Danas Bičkauskas, Jurgita Rimkevičiūtė Juškuvienė – and two new, but already clearly established personalities in the collective – Valdas Ručinskas and Viktoras Jeselskis.

The mysterious, darkly humorous, yet painfully human story of "Widows" invites you to look at life, loss, and love from a different angle. It is not only a theatrical event, but also an invitation to stop, listen to yourself, and rethink the fundamental questions of human existence.

Please note that entrance to the performance is with invitations, which are distributed by the Šiauliai Cultural Centre box office and "Ticketmarket.lt" from April 15.
