Children’s Easter came to life in Rėkyva – traditions, games, and togetherness

On April 12, 2026, a colorful spring celebration for the whole family – “Children’s Easter in Rėkyva” – took place at the Rėkyva Cultural House and park of the Šiauliai Cultural Center. The event brought together a large number of families, children, and community members, inviting everyone to experience the joy of togetherness. There was no shortage of laughter or entertainment – a variety of activities delighted both the youngest and older participants of the celebration.
Organizer – Šiauliai Cultural Center.

In Lithuania, Children’s Easter (Velykėlės) is associated with Atvelykis – the first Sunday after Easter, dedicated to children. It is a time when traditions are nurtured: eggs are decorated and rolled, various games are played, and all of this is accompanied by togetherness and springtime joy. This spirit of the celebration came to life this year in Rėkyva, where traditions were not only remembered but also actively experienced.

The event began with the concert “Dancing Easter” by the Šiauliai Cultural Center choreography studio “Impresija” (art director Inga Širvienė). The young dancers who performed on the concert hall stage created a light, spring-like atmosphere – movement, music, and colors merged into a lively, energetic performance, symbolically marking the awakening of nature.

At the same time, the park of the Rėkyva Cultural House was filled with lively activity – visitors were welcomed by a variety of attractions. Great interest was drawn to the activities with the Easter Granny, portrayed by Vita Taučienė-Rezgienė, art director of the folklore ensemble “Sidabrinė gija” of the Šiauliai Cultural Center – she invited children to join games and creative tasks.

Participants eagerly tried different entertainments. In “Egg Fishing,” specially made flat eggs were “caught” using wooden fishing rods, while in the game “Chicken Feet,” participants, holding onto ropes, tried to maintain balance while walking on wooden imitations of chicken legs.

The game “Animal Croquet” also brought much excitement – balls rolled with sticks had to be guided into openings in wooden figures of a fox, rabbit, cat, dog, and others. Curious visitors were also drawn to “Egg Threading,” where a large hollow egg-shaped stand was “decorated” by weaving colorful strings through it. The celebration also featured egg hunts and egg-rolling competitions.

Guests of the celebration could also learn about egg-decorating traditions during the educational activity “Easter Patterns.” During it, participants decorated clay eggs with various colors and created unique handmade souvenirs to remember the celebration.

Following the renovation of the Rėkyva Cultural House, increasing attention has been given to strengthening the community and creating new gathering traditions. “Children’s Easter in Rėkyva” is one of the most vivid examples of this direction, highlighting the space as a lively, open, and meaningful meeting place for the community.
